Name Your Genius
My genius is that I am really good at vibing with people from all walks of life.
For example, when you look at all of my friends, they are each very, very different. We talk about very different things, too. For example, my friend, Amy, is my silly friend. To this day, we joke like little girls on the playground. My friend, Bevin, is my entrepreneurial friend. We love to jam out on our businesses, our dreams, our future. My friend, Lauren, is my fun friend. We love to talk about having a good time, music, adventure. My friend, Angela, is my sister. She gives me room to be myself with no judgment. Granted, I realize I am grossly simplifying these women into one sentence descriptions. However, they are just too wonderful to capture in a blog post.
I will tell you that my first impression of them is that they’d probably never want to be my friend or that we’d have nothing in common. I’m so glad I was wrong.
Amy was so quiet that, every time I spoke to her, I thought she’d disappear. I’d talk to her during class and when the professor would ask, “Who’s talking?” I’d point to Amy. She was mortified. Bevin was so free and full of life, next to my super serious Type A Econ student demeanor. She could casually chat up anyone in the room. Lauren, my first year neighbor in college, was way too elegant for my ratchet ass. We ended up taking Atlanta by storm. Angela looked like she was gonna beat me up when she sat in front of me in our high school Spanish class. I tapped her on the shoulder, said something funny, made her laugh, and the rest is history.
I don’t have a problem meeting strangers -- I like to think of them as friends I haven’t made yet. It takes the edge off of the awkwardness. Does it go perfectly every time? Nope. But when it does, it’s magic. I love that about myself -- I look for magic in people and I find it -- 9.99 times out of 10.
Now it’s your turn. Comment below and tell me what your genius is.
I’m cheering for you. Like you’re Good Will Hunting.
