Episode 40: Look for Yours On Earth

Duration: 00:18:33

In today’s episode, I’m going to share my WHY for being a life coach.

Real talk: this entrepreneurship thing has been a long and winding road. Every day I learn something new (translation: I fail a lot. I pick myself back up and keep on going).

I’ve always known that I want to help people. I want to brighten their days, encourage them and remind them of just how amazingly dope they are. I believe each person is a unique gift from God and each of us has the potential to add beauty, hope and kindness to this world.

During the summer of 2013, I started my blog, Ocho Brazos Yoga. (A big shout out to my OG HBs that been rockin’ with me since the OBY days.) At first, I thought I wanted to run a yoga studio, but quickly realized that wasn’t for me. So I rebranded OBY to Yogi Tish, my self-help version of Beyonce’s Sasha Fierce. (If I’m honest, it’s because I didn’t feel confident showing up and sharing my talents as myself.)

I was still figuring things out and Yogi Tish gave me the freedom and space to explore and define my message.

When my daughter, Lyric, was born in 2017, my life changed.

For the first time, I experienced pure, unconditional love. I also realized just how much I didn’t know what love was before she came into my life. I especially didn’t know what self-love was. I realized that, up until that point, I only knew what it was to like myself … sometimes. Meaning, I would treat myself “marginally okay” if I met certain requirements, like reaching a certain weight goal, looking a certain way when I did manage to look in the mirror, making all A’s at school, succeeding at my job, exercising 7 days a week, eating clean, so on and so forth.

And if I didn’t meet those requirements, there was hell to pay and I was the one paying it. I now realize that I was in an abusive relationship with myself.

I will forever thank God for Lyric’s arrival into my life.

Let me tell you about the love I feel for my daughter: it knows no bounds. I pray for her a million times a day so that my love will cover her even after the days I’m no longer in this physical body of mine. I wish every great thing for her. I pray that her dreams come true and that they are even better than anything that she could ever imagine. I pray for her safety and her protection. I pray that she makes decisions that align with her highest good. I pray that her life is filled with love, delight, prosperity, peace and all the desires of her heart.

Having her and watching her grow has given me tremendo a-ha moment:

The way I love her is the way that God loves me. The way I love her is the way I hope that she will one day love herself: unconditionally and unapologetically. The way I love her is the way I should love myself.

The reality is that my love for her pales in comparison to the love that God has for her, for me, for each of us and for all of us. The prayers I pray for her are the same ones that have been prayed over me since before I arrived on this planet. The love I feel for her is the same love that has always been inside of me. I came to this world perfect, whole and complete, installed with my own reservoir of love. I came to this world loving myself unconditionally.

How do I know this? Because Lyric has shown me that.

When she came into my life, my life purpose finally crystallized in my heart. I dropped the Yogi Tish moniker and never looked back.

Fast forward to today, I am now a Master Life Coach and Motivational Speaker. I am obsessed with helping women all over the world love themselves into the lives of their dreams. I’ve seen firsthand how the world changes each time a woman starts saying YES to herself. I’m blessed to work with women from all over the world and every day I remind them of their innate brilliance and worthiness.

  • I do this for my daughter

I want to help change the world she is growing up in and I believe empowering women is the way to do it. I want her to always believe in her genius, to love herself fiercely and to go after the dreams that God has placed in her heart.

  • I do this for God.

While I’m an imperfect vessel, I pray every day that God shows me how I can leave the world better than how I found it. I do believe in angels, but, more importantly, I think we all have the opportunity to be God’s angels here on earth. I want every single woman out there to know that she is loved, she is precious and she deserves to take up space because she showed up to life.

I have learned so much as an entrepreneur, as a Life Coach, a mom and a human being. I want to share that with you. How blessed am I that I get to work with the most amazing clients! They inspire me with their brilliance. I simply reflect it back to them over and over again.

All of this to say THANK YOU for joining me on this journey. There are so many amazing people vying for your attention and I don’t take it for granted that you rock with me.

Side note: if you’re an entrepreneur or you’ve just got a big dream in your heart that hasn’t come to pass yet, don’t give up.

Keep taking small consistent actions every single day. Always remember that the day that you plant the seed isn’t the same day that you’ll reap the fruit. God wants you to know that He’s got the whole world in his hands and that includes you. Trust His Divine Timing. Everything is right on schedule. You are loved. You are loved. You are loved.

Earlier I mentioned a special announcement and here it is:
