What No One Tells You About Self-Love
Happy Monday, HB!
Today I posted a blog post entitled, “What No One Tells You About Self-Love” because I believe that there is a key truth about self-love that we aren’t talking about enough.
You see, we now live in what I like to call an “instaculture.” This is a culture where instant gratification is the name of the game. Whether it’s gaining a following of a million people or making a million dollars, we want everything now, now, now. While I’m all about making things happen and living our best lives right now, I recognize that there are certain things in life that just don’t happen that way.
Let’s take for example a rosebud. No one ever looks at the rosebud and says, “Hey, it’s been five minutes. Why haven’t you bloomed yet?” We understand that it’s a process and, even though we can’t see it, that rosebud is blooming. It’s just that our eyes can’t perceive the growth.
We take this “Why isn’t it done yet?” approach in our lives all the time. With our self-love journey, we say, “Okay. We’ve been doing the work. Why don’t we love ourselves yet?” not understanding that this, too, is a process and that things are happening that we can’t perceive with our five senses.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be a “one and done” person. I want to evolve. I want to experience the beauty of my life at every stage I’m able to. I think of my homeboy, Joaquin, who passed away in a car wreck when I was 15 years old. I try very much to enjoy this journey for the both of us because I understand that life is a blessing. I don’t ever want to take it for granted.
So the next time you find yourself stressing out about your progress, remember that no one stresses out a rosebud. Give yourself time to bloom, boo.
Now it’s your turn. Read today’s post and leave a comment with your greatest takeaway.
I’m cheering for you. Like the award winning gardener you are.
